SERVIR released the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Handbook which includes the comprehensive methodologies for Forest Monitoring and Biomass Estimation. This handbook contains a collection of state-of-the-art methods and theoretical background to facilitate the use of SAR data for forest monitoring and biomass estimation.

Subject Matter Expert (SME) in SAR, in collaboration with SERVIR, conducted five training in Asia, Africa, and the US at different SERVIR Hubs on various applications. These include, but not limited to SAR basics, SAR for Forest Change Detection, Forest Height Estimation, Biomass Estimation, Mangrove monitoring, and Sampling Design. Each of these training topics is covered in a SAR Handbook chapter, which includes the theoretical basics and applied exercises. Chapters were authored by SAR experts Franz Meyer, Josef Kellndorfer, Paul Siqueira, Sassan Saatchi, Marc Simard, and Hans Andersen

These methodologies, materials, and resources along with various others are compiled to provide a comprehensive and thorough guidebook which can be used by professionals as well as academic to carry out the processing of the SAR data on their own together with training materials for capacity building purpose.
